Yes it's true, you're not seeing double. Dell has come back from inactivity with the XPS series, they weren't in activity just sat a bit on the bench. to be honest Dell XPS never really went away they produced the Studio XPS and Adamo XPS. The XPS was put aside since they bought Alienware, they came up with new products but not so often and they weren't really good in configurations, because they wanted the Alienware to be the best in gaming so the company's refocusing its efforts and bringing back the tried and true multimedia laptop brand
At first the new Dell XPS appeared in US only and they didn't say when they are going to launch it in the UK, but after a few weeks they made that step as well. So far they only brought the 15" and 17" versions. Here is the US link and the UK link
The new XPS wants to have the looks of a Studio and the performance of an Alienware. It has the new Intel processors from i5 and i7 family, with 4096MB, 6144MB, 8192MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM, the 15" comes with a standard 15.6 High Definition WLED TL (1366x768) 720p which can be upgraded to 15.6 Full HD B+RGLED TL (1920x1080) 1080p, the new and improved Bluetooth Card 3.0, it also comes with new features like new graphics cards, JBL system and Skype certified web camera and a few more features which you can see when you customize your product.
The new XPS came back with crazy NVIDIA graphics cards and 3Dplay support(details on the graphics click here ) like 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 420M Graphics Card and 2GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 435M Graphics Card which at the moment they are the greatest you can get on a laptop. XPS even has the NVIDIA Optimus Technology which intelligently optimizes your notebook PC, providing the outstanding graphics performance you need, when you need it, all the while extending battery life for longer enjoyment (more information about NVIDIA OPTIMUS Technology click here ).
They also brought a sick JBL system sound, I haven't had the chance to actually test it, but I bet ya its very loud and as far as I know looks to be the best sound ever put on a laptop. (details on the sound click here )
Dell and Skype looks that they made some agreement between and Dell XPS is the first Skype certified
laptop.( details on this click here ).
A few pictures can be found here on the Dell's website quick link here which takes you direct to the photos.
Overall it's a good laptop, what am I saying it's really great laptop, configuration speaking. The design it looks a bit bulky but that doesn't sound like a really big problem, as I heard somewhere, I don't remember where exactly, but he said that the new XPS is not made to sit on your lap, it's right place is on a table.
So it has a really good configuration and you can make it even better if you have a bit of money, design looks similar with Studio, it's a bit heavy and the price is really affordable for its configuration. I would like to test drive it for a few days to be honest. It may be a future laptop for me, because I don't have one at the moment and wrote this because I researched about it on the internet. I want to buy me a new laptop and the new XPS might be a potential one.
Hope it was interesting, hearing from me soon.
